LENS(Low Energy Neurofeedback System) is an innovative approach to brain recalibration & self-regulation. This therapy targets the central nervous system and utilizes real-time brain waves to help alleviate symptoms, optimize functioning, and reclaim neurological and physiological potential. By monitoring and adjusting electrical brain activity in real-time, LENS neurofeedback helps promote improved brain functioning & overall well-being. Unlike traditional neurofeedback methods that use audio or visual stimuli, LENS works by targeting the brain's electrical impulses directly.
This non-invasive technique encourages the whole brain to self-regulate & recalibrate its performance. With its focus on optimizing the nervous system, LENS neurofeedback offers a safe & effective method to enhance brain function & achieve positive outcomes in various areas of life, such as stress reduction, mental clarity, & emotional stability.
Results can be seen quickly, often beginning within the first session, and are lasting. It may be utilized as the primary treatment approach, or as an adjunct to other therapies. Clients across the lifespan, from young children (3 months old) to the elderly, and animals have benefited from LENS therapy
By providing gentle & brief frequency stimulation, LENS neurofeedback helps to "reset" the brain, reducing patterns of dysfunctional or excessive activity. This process allows for greater flexibility & efficient functioning of the brain, leading to improved cognitive & emotional functioning.
The LENS appears to address underlying neuropsychological functions as a rehabilitation tool increasing the self-regulatory capabilities of the brain. It appears to do this by re-toning the brain's reactions to stimulation, interrupting the inhibitory self-protective mechanisms of the brain that interfere with connectivity, and facilitating cortical functioning that integrates subcortical electrical activity and normalizes recorded scalp potentials. This takes the form of reducing high amplitudes and releasing the suppression on abnormally low recorded amplitudes. The emphasis is on disrupting dysfunctional patterns and letting the brain re- establish the connections in ways it sees fit to do, without micromanagement.
Unlike traditional neurofeedback, which relies on external stimuli, LENS neurofeedback directly targets the electrical impulses of the brain. This kind of neurofeedback operates much quicker than “traditional” neurofeedback methods. A typical session lasts up to 20 minutes, & the client does not have to “do” anything. This means that LENS can help adults & children who have trouble with focusing or sitting still.
Additionally, LENS neurofeedback is completely non-invasive & is a painless application that can be conducted in a comfortable & relaxing environment. Overall, LENS neurofeedback works by helping the brain to recalibrate & optimize its functioning, resulting in improved mental & emotional well-being.
The LENS has been successfully applied to central nervous system functioning problems, such as symptoms of traumatic brain injury, stroke rehabilitation, fibromyalgia, depression and other mood and anxiety disorders, attention, hyper-activity, explosiveness/anger, and learning problems.
The LENS tends to make functioning clearer and easier. It has increased cognitive functioning (memory, concentration, attention, ability to learn and to read, organizing, and sequencing), motivation (initiating and completing activities), and motor skills (coordination, balance, grace, recovery from paralysis). It has an elevated mood as an antidepressant. It has improved sleep at night, and reduced sleepiness during the day. It has increased energy and stamina. It has reduced seizures, explosiveness, irritability, spasticity, and background anxiety. It has reduced the symptoms of migraine and fibromyalgia pain, as well as Restless Legs problems.
Although no significant negative side effects have been observed so far, the non-significant ones that we have seen will be discussed with you by your LENS Technician. Your understanding of them will help you work with us to provide successful LENS plans. The side effects sometimes seen with the LENS are in the form of temporary increases of the symptoms you already have or have experienced. If you experience any side effects, let your LENS Technician know so that they can work closely with you to adjust the dosage of the LENS.
You must be medically stable to engage in this treatment. Please tell your Technician if you have any changes in medication, but especially any changes that could affect your medical stability. At times, your medical stability may be increased by reducing your medication. Your Technician will ask you to consult your physician in these instances.
